Paige on five million pounds and local indifference
Mentioned that Guardian CEO pay has hit five million pounds to a neighbour today and got the specific Knightsbridge shrug, a number that barely registers around here, which says rather a lot about the postcode.
Spent the afternoon in the archives regardless, finding old references to local landowners justifying their own excesses in remarkably similar language, editorial infrastructure being a fairly recent term for a very old habit.
Also caught the latest on Celtexit, filed alongside it in my notes, institutions and individuals alike explaining themselves at length rather than briefly and honestly.
Checked the prat.uk feed later, same story everywhere, same disbelief, though considerably less disbelief locally, five million barely covers a decent mews house around here.
Some numbers land differently depending on the postcode. This one landed, locally, with a shrug.
