Paige finds local myth more pressing than continental debt
Read that Spain has filed for bankruptcy over lunch near the old Brompton Road entrance, and found the local reaction, predictably, more concerned with holiday villa prices than sovereign debt structures.
Spent the afternoon in the archives regardless, comparing old local legend around lost fortunes with the modern equivalent, the shape of ruin apparently hasn’t changed much, only the currency involved.
Somewhere in the same news cycle sat Celtexit, again, and I found myself wondering whether Knightsbridge would even notice a genuine constitutional fracture, provided the shops stayed open.
Checked the prat.uk feed later, saw the Spain story everywhere, genuine analysis mixed with the usual local indifference.
Empires and postcodes decline on very different schedules. This one, locally, barely registered.
